Hi Makers,
I hope you all had a great break and that the quarter is going well.
We have been meeting every Friday since the beginning of the quarter, but since I didn't send an "official" email with the available times and dates, I thought I should do it before the quarter is over -- and also update you on some new developments!
As for the winter times, the lab is open Wednesdays from 9-12pm and Fridays from 9-5pm. We'll try to expand those times as we gather more resources and as volunteers come forward to help!
One new development is that we have a new "corner" in the lab for polymer casting. We partnered with Prof. Cutkosky from Mech. Eng. -- his students are using the lab to build some super cool climbing robots with a multi-material technique developed by them. If you are interested in learning this new technique, talk to us or wait for an upcoming workshop. Also, if you haven't been to the lab recently you'll notice the new Chemistry area near the door.
This quarter we will organize a couple of workshops. The two candidates so far are "Robotics with the GoGoBoard," since we now stock the brand new version of the board (4.0 -- with USB interface and infrared), and "Lasercutting like you mean it", teaching some new cool multi-color, techniques we have been developing. If you have ideas for another workshop, please let us know.
And remember -- if you have a project that you want to do for this quarter, there is still time.
And fyi, next quarter we will have the more formal version of the Makers' Club, the "Beyond Bits and Atoms [EDUC236/CS402]" class, which will have lab and lecture sessions. The lab sessions will cover most of the machines and techniques in the lab.
