Repurposing electronics

I took apart a random broken gadget that I got from Andrea or maybe Betsy.  It had a switch, an LED, a mic, along with resistors and other components.  I was a bit lost about what to do, until Claire suggested using the mic as a sound sensor.  I took apart an existing sound sensor to figure out how that worked, then stuck my mic in there.  And it worked!  Kind of.

Brainstorming and Inspiration

I started out wanting to do a project inspired by Gehry, but I couldn't figure out a design that I was happy with.  I shifted to my next favorite artist, Van Gogh.  I decided I would make a "planter" with "sunflowers" inside it, which would really be a pencil holder for my desk, filled with pens decorated as flowers.  The sunflowers would have 12 petals so that the clock hands could correspond to them.  I wanted to use only the clock…
