I started the Fab Lab here at TMS in 2007 after years of small scale making with students in my various teaching gigs over the past ~20 years. We have a laser cutter, metal shop, wood shop, electronics, and etc. Students have built a wide variety of very cool things over the past few years... electric motorcycles (see http://youtu.be/OcKdE3hN0Sk), wind turbine generator, electric guitars, Arduino controlled cameras... and on and on.
